Srikanth Kidambi’s Badminton Racket
Srikanth Kidambi is the first Indian Men’s Singles player to grab the headlines after Pullela Gopichand, his coach. He came into the limelight after he defeated Lin Dan in 2014 China Superseries Premier. Defeating Lin Dan on his home turf in a final was unexpected. He has improved on his playing skills and abilities since. And in 2017, he hit the purple patch of his career by winning 2 back to back Superseries Titles (Indonesia Open & Australian Open) in two consecutive weeks. Srikanth Kidambi is popular more than ever in his home country India now.
Srikanth has used just a handful of rackets after he started participating in international tournaments.
Current Racket : Yonex Voltric Z Force 2 ( Matte Black)
Yonex has been Srikanth’s sponsor from 2016. He started using the Yonex Voltric Z Force 2 from the German Open of 2016. He has not changed his racket since. Srikanth is a natural attacking player, so it is no surprise why he chose this racket.
The power and the solid punch of the Voltric Z Force 2 is not comparable to any other racket. This racket stands out so much from all other rackets. It is way stiffer than most rackets, it has a way thinner racket shaft than most rackets, also it has a way smaller head size than most rackets. So it is quite common that first time users of this racket find it frustrating to play with. But once you settle in and get used to the Z Force 2, it is hard to let go of this racket.
2014 -2015: Li Ning N9 Turbo Charging
During this period Srikanth Kidambi was in partnership with Li Ning, the Chinese Sports brand. Srikanth’s playing style in those days was full attacking. Any lift to his back court was answered with a thunderous smash with the Li Ning N9 Turbo Charging. But his defence was comparatively weaker. In an interview, he said he worked and improved on his defence for almost one year. It was only after that he won the first Superseries Title of his career, the Thaihot China Open of 2014. This achievement was famous for the fact that he beat Lin Dan in his home ground in that final. Up until then Lin Dan had never lost a superseries final he contested in China.
2013 and earlier : Yonex Arcsaber 11
In his earlier days when he was not in stardom, Srikanth Kidambi was using the Yonex Arcsaber 11. The Arcsaber 11 is an exceptional racket, one which many double players are using right now. It has an even balance, and it is more suitable for doubles players.
